The Oubliette is the final area in Metroid Prime Hunters. It is found in the Infinity Void, and the only way to get there is to bring all eight Octoliths to the cannon room in Alinos to fire the Alimbic Cannon. It is home to the final boss of the game, Gorea, and is destroyed in both endings. The second ending includes a short scene in which it appears that the six rival hunters escape Oubliette in their ships along with Samus Aran. There is also a multiplayer level with the same name.

The prison cells at the classified Federation Starfleet asteroid were described as modern oubliettes. Like their Earth counterparts they were built deep underground. Because the facility was meant to house prisoners that could potentially use telepathy to manipulate the guards, drones were used to guard the few prisoners sent there. The drones could use holographic projectors to project images of guards, who would be controlling the drones from remote stations. (ST - The Fall novel: The Poisoned Chalice)

  • The Oubliette is a dark pit, a dungeon with no doors, and one of the locations featured in the 1986 fantasy movie Labyrinth. Its name is based on the French word for "to forget", because people left in the pit were supposed to be forgotten. This darkened prison is often used by Jareth the Goblin King to imprison and trap all his enemies as well as traitors and "guests".
