Führer (Fuehrer when the ü-umlaut is not used, but never Fuhrer) is a noun meaning "leader" in the German language. It is mainly used in English as the term for Nazi Germany's ruler Adolf Hitler. Though the word remains common in German, it does come with some social stigma attached (though not when used as meaning guide), and under Hitler was part of the title of many positions in the various (para)military and governmental organizations of Germany.

- Adolf Hitler was the Führer of Nazi Germany in the mid-20th century. When John Gill reformed Ekosian society after Nazi principles in the 2260s, he also took the title of Führer. (TOS: "Patterns of Force" ) Hitler became chancellor of Germany in 1933, before combining the offices of chancellor and president in himself, being referred to officially as "Führer und Reichskanzler", later shortened to Führer. In a holoprogram set in 1944 France, a Nazi officer told Turanj that Karr had never embraced the Führer or his vision and they were therefore right to disobey his orders. (VOY: "The Killing Game, Part II") In an alternate timeline 1944, Hitler was referred to both as the Führer and German chancellor in News on Parade. The title was also used by a German general and Vosk when speaking about Hitler. (ENT: "Storm Front, Part II")

After the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, the word became unpopular due to its connection to Nazis. Centuries later, when Federation historian John Gill attempted to institute a more benign Nazi government on Ekos, he named himself the Führer of the Ekosian state. His subordinate Melakon became Deputy-Führer, becoming Führer in all but name when he drugs Gill and seizes control of the Ekosian state. (TOS episode: "Patterns of Force")
