Masaryk University (MU) is a university in the Czech Republic, headquartered in the city of Brno (the second largest city of the country and capital of the historical region of Moravia). It is considered one of the most prestigious universities in the country in a number of fields of science, and is frequently compared with the Charles University in the national capital of Prague, which is the oldest and largest Czech university. It is named for Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the founder and first president of Czechoslovakia in 1918.
