  • The hermit crab was a species of freshwater crustacean. Instead of growing its own shell, the hermit crab lived in discarded shells, exchanging one home for another as it grew.
  • While Aang, Katara, and Teo explored the Northern Air Temple, they spotted one of these creatures. Teo picked it up and, in an effort to comfort the Avatar, pointed out that even though the temple might have been technologically altered by the mechanist, the creatures living there were likely direct descendants of the animals that had lived during the time of the Air Nomads. Pleased with the idea, Aang later compared the Earth Kingdom refugees who took residence in the abandoned settlement with these creatures by saying, "Maybe you weren't born here, but you found this empty shell and made it your home."
  • Unlike most pets, the hermit crab may be customised to a degree by giving it various different items to use as a shell. Different shells may be bought using crystal urchin points at Mhistyll's Prifddinas Waterfall Fishing Shop, including: * Hermit crab shell - 750 points * Hermit crab nautilus - 750 points * Hermit crab coral - 1,500 points * Hermit crab chest - 3,000 points * Hermit crab boot - 15,000 points

  • Explanatory note: This creature is not the same in the game HKO as of 2011 anymore. This entry describes a Beta-creature of 2008. Hermit Crabs have been renamed to Pagurians before the release of the game in 2009 and will drop different stuff now in 2011. They don't drop quest-items at the moment in 2011, even though they might do that during an event. Image:Hermit Crab.PNG Level: 1 Drop:
