Hudson was chosen in the 6th round, 71st overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft. After leaving the University of North Dakota in 1970, Hudson turned pro and joined the Dallas Black Hawks for two years. He was chosen by the New York Islanders in the 1972 NHL Expansion Draft which gave him a chance at the NHL. After two seasons he was chosen by the Kansas City Scouts in the 1974 NHL Expansion Draft and spent four seasons there. Hudson retired in 1978.
