In Meiji 38, Haruhi bothered a man called "Mr. Author-Guy" about a manuscript he was writing about the decline of the Meiji. After she left, he commented on her group, the SOS Brigade. Haruhi wanted her group to collect the best tea ever made, "Five-Dimensional Tea". Kyon complained they couldn't figure out how to make the tea from the name. Koizumi was willing to fulfill her request, and told Kyon that they were on the verge of a new era where women express themselves, such as Akiko Yosano (与謝野 晶子), a feminist author from the late Meiji period. Koizumi was reading her magazine, Myōjō (明星). They also discussed the author, but could only agree that he seems to be someone important.

  • In Meiji 38, Haruhi bothered a man called "Mr. At the tea-tasting ceremony, Haruhi dismissed the teas her band had collected. Asahina eventually brewed a tea that suited Haruhi's tastes. That's when Kyon woke up at SOS Brigade headquarters, and the others were mocking him for falling asleep during the middle of the day. However, Kyon woke up in the Meiji era again, and thought the future was a dream. The author decided to write a story about a girl who characterizes the new age, and would have a strong-willed unreserved personality. Haruhi, meanwhile, told Asahina that this was great tea, and if she was reincarnated, wanted her to make it again for her sometime.
