Durgin earned a degree in wildlife illustration and environmental education and spent a few years in the Appalachian Mountains. She has published over fifteen titles. In 1995, she won the Compton Crook/Stephen Tall Memorial Award for "Dun Lady's Jess". She currently lives in New Mexico.
