The Winnipeg native spent five years at the University of Manitoba, winning the Allan Cup in 1927-28. He then played senior with the Winnipeg Winnipegs and Winnipeg CPR teams. Blair joined the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1928-29 and impressed with 27 points in 44 games. He often centred Ace Bailey and Baldy Cotton and was a valuable member of the first Maple Leafs' Stanley Cup team in 1932.
