- The Caribbean Sea was a tropical sea in the Caribbean, part of the Atlantic Ocean southeast of the Gulf of Mexico. Following the discovery of America in 1492, the countries of Europe began colonizing the islands and starting a thriving trade. This trade attracted pirates. The Pirate Lords of the Caribbean Sea during the first half of the 18th century were Don Rafael, Lady Esmeralda, and Jack Sparrow. Three island chains that make up the Caribbean sea were the Lesser Antilles, the Greater Antilles, and the South Archipelago.
- The Caribbean Sea is a tropical body of water adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean and southeast of the Gulf of Mexico. It covers most of the Caribbean Plate and is bounded on the south by Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama, to the west by Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, and the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, to the north by the Greater Antilles islands of Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico, and to the east by the Lesser Antilles. The entire area of the Caribbean Sea, especially the numerous islands, is known as the Caribbean.
- The Caribbean Sea is a sea of the Atlantic Ocean, separated from that ocean by the islands of the West Indies, including Cuba and Hispaniola, and having coastline along the northern portion of South America and the eastern portion of Central America. Located in the tropics, the sea is home to warmer waters than other portions of the Atlantic, but also falls in the path of many Atlantic hurricanes.
- The European Empires relied on the Caribbean islands for crops, such as sugar and coffee beans, which were in high demand. During the 1710s, during the Golden Age of Piracy, trade ships on the Caribbean Sea became a target for pirates, like Edward Kenway, Benjamin Hornigold, Edward Thatch and Charles Vane.

Located in the tropics, the sea is home to warmer waters than other portions of the Atlantic, but also falls in the path of many Atlantic hurricanes. The region of the Caribbean Sea and its islands is frequently referred as the Caribbean. Home to the native Caribs, the region was discovered by Europeans in the late 1400s, and was primarily colonized by the Spanish, though piracy was common.

Edward Kenway's grandson, the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton, sailed this sea several times while acting as the captain of the Aquila during the 1770s. Throughout the American Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress came to realize that by targeting ships on the Caribbean Sea and disrupting trade, it would give more reason for the British to consider the war an unnecessary financial strain and to subsequently surrender.

The Caribbean Sea is one of the largest salt water seas and has an area of about 2,754,000 km² (1,063,000 square miles). The sea's deepest point is the Cayman Trench, between Cuba and Jamaica, at 7500 m (25,000 feet) below sea level. The entire area of the Caribbean Sea, especially the numerous islands, is known as the Caribbean.
