BusyBox is an application designed to replace many standard Unix utilities with a single binary in an effort to reduce size and memory usage. It is used heavily in the embedded field, as well as the initial ramdisks of most distros, and the main shell of many distros targeting low-power or older devices like ttylinux or Damn Small Linux.
