The Magistrate fined Ken Barlow £5 for taking part in an anti-Vietnam student demonstration. Ken refused to pay the fine and was sent to prison for seven days. The character was played by S. Keith James - one of only three people who both wrote for the programme and appeared in it (the others being Bob Mason and Stephen Mallatratt).
