An alternate character or alt is a character belonging to a player, alongside his primary character. It is possible to have a total of three characters per subscription/account, but it is only possible to train a skill on - or play as - one character at a time, per subscription. Due to these limitations, some players may run more than one subscription simultaneously. Common usage of an alt is to fulfill various extra roles, such as hauling, scouting and providing logistics support during combat.
