He also became a regularly contributor to Heavy Metal Magazine. Bisley's style, reliant on paints, acrylics, inks and multiple-mediums, was strongly influenced by Frank Frazetta, Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dalí, William Turner and fellow A/P/AVP-comics contributor Richard Corben. He also took inspiration from rock album covers and graffiti as well as traditional comics art. In turn he and his work has inspired various forms in media, including the Beast in the 2006 Doctor Who episode "The Satan Pit", and Simon Pegg's character graphic artist Tim Bisley on the Channel 4 sitcom Spaced. Bisley was born in 1962. While still a student, Bisley did a painting of a robot holding a baby that he sent to the offices of 2000 AD. The image was seen by writer Pat Mills and inspired him to relaunch the ABC Warriors strip, with Bisley as artist, in 1987. Following this, Bisley took over drawing of Sláine. In America Bisley grew to fame as the artist of the Batman/Judge Dredd: Judgement on Gotham crossover (for he which he won the Eisner Award for Best Artist), a number of Lobo miniseries (with his take on the character considered to be definitive), Hellblazer, Doom Patrol, The Demon, Swamp Thing, Sandman and others, all for DC Comics. Bisley has also worked on a number of major and indie comics projects including his story Bad Boy with Frank Miller for Oni Press. He has also worked for Marvel, Image, Dark Horse (for whom he has also worked on the Grendel series) and other publishers. He is most famous for his painted cover art, but also often contributes pencil and ink interiors. As of 2007, Bisley is still an occasional contributor to the comics magazine Heavy Metal. He has also worked on album cover art for such bands as Danzig, King Prawn and Mortal Sin.
