The USS Atlantic (NCC-94893) and her sister ship, the Pacific were passed for production after Type XV phasers became stable to use on ships with suitably large amounts of power. Although large and therefore somewhat sluggish, the Atlantic can pack more punch than any federation ship before it. Using prototype phase-charge units, the phasers can fire an extremely powerful, megacharged beam approximately every 9 seconds at normal weapon power. Multiple lower power beams fire in between whilst the phase-charge units replenish energy.

Recently out of the prototype stage, the Atlantic has started to take on ever more dangerous missions and has proven itself thus far to be a more than capable ship in all but the most specialised situations. She has become quite a legend among many hostile and friendly species for her dramatic appearances in reply to distress calls, where any hostile ships invariably make a hasty exit in fear of the awesome power the Atlantic can unleash. Thanks to recent advances, the Atlantic is showcasing the latest in shield and warp core technology giving the ship stronger shields than most medium size stations and enough power left over for the weapons, and other systems if the situation requires. A secondary shield tightly wrapping around the hull also adds protection to some important systems, highly reducing the chance of a highly damaging or direct hit and increasing the amount of damage they can take before becoming disabled. A formidable ship in anyone's eyes though some speculate the Federation has unwittingly started an arms race with the Romulans, Cardassians and Klingons who have yet to create an equal to the Atlantic.
