After new recruit Madalyne Hyser arrived,, the Robotech Masters arrived. Their waste disposal destroyed the base's transmitter. Kirwain had an obsession with Nova Satori, building a shrine to her. He wrote letters to her, but because he could not mail them, it was assumed they were put behind the shrine. He even named his VHT-1 Spartas the "Nova Express". Kirwain also listened to Rooster Cogburn. His fellow soldier Brian Steir wanted to write a book about his eccentricities.
