The SuperGrafx was released in '89, as the successor to the TurboGrafx-16. But NEC didn't really think this through: it was basically the same machine, only with more RAM, an extra GPU, and a much heftier price tag. Good thing it was backwards-compatible, because its own library consists of only five games (plus the two Darius games for the TG that ran with better graphics on the SG). It was such a flop that it died out long before the system it was meant to succeed.
