- In Greek mythology, Asterion is the personal name of the Minotaur. The Minotaur was named after his stepfather, Asterion, the ruler of Crete. Asterion is Greek for "ruler of the stars".
- According to legend, many millennia ago, Asterion was one of the seven "Ancients" (Also known as the Ancients of Everspring/Everspring Ancients) that oversaw and guided the race of ethereals. As an Ancient, Asterion was given the title of "Ancient of Judgement" and "Arbiter", meaning that it was the duty of Asterion to provide reasonable conclusions between the other Ancients, and to settle any disagreements that occurred between the ethereal council. However, over time, the role of heavy power granted to Asterion of being such a deciding factor and mediator to the council (even to a being of demigod-like qualities such as Asterion) gave Asterion a sense of supremacy, responsibility, and self-righteousness.
- Asterion are beings whose souls are of stars, and this is their true form. They appear as humans and love the light, thus hating the darkness and will rarely sleep in the dark. Their dislike for darkness generally prevents them from going out in the night although this phobia can be overcome. Asterions act and appear as humans but possess unique qualities which make them different from humans. For example, when they are full of positive emotions and feel elated their skin will glow. Due to their human appearance, some Asterion do not know of their true form until they accidentally use their powers or are told what they are by someone. - In Greek mythology, Asterion ("starry", "ruler of the stars") denotes two sacred kings of Crete. The first Asterion (Ancient Greek: Ἀστερίων) or Asterius (Ἀστέριος), the son of Tectamus son of Dorus called by the Greeks "king" of Crete, was the consort of Europa and stepfather of her sons by Zeus, who had to assume the form of the Cretan bull of the sun to accomplish his role. The sons were Minos, the just king in Crete who judged the Underworld; Rhadamanthus, presiding over the Garden of the Hesperides or in the Underworld; and Sarpedon, likewise a judge in the Afterlife. When he died, Asterion gave his kingdom to Minos, who promptly "banished" his brothers after quarrelling with them. Crete, daughter of Asterion, was a possible wife of Minos.
