He played junior hockey for the Edmonton Canadians from 1930 to 1933. Dame then joined the senior Rossland Miners from 1933 to 1936 and the Trail Smoke Eaters from 1936 to 1941. While with the Smoke Eaters Dame won the Allan Cup in 1938 and went to the 1939 World Championship. The Smoke Eaters won the gold medal for Canada and Dame led all scorers in goals and points. In 1941 Dame signed as a free agent with the Montreal Canadiens and played in 34 games, scoring 2 goals and 5 assists in 1941-42. The next two seasons were spent in the Canadian miltary during World War II.
