Southbound Brewing Company was founded by two friends Smith Mathews and Carly Wiggins. The two grew up together in Statesboro, GA and both attended the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. Smith earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from The Georgia Institute of Technology while working at Sweetwater Brewing Company throughout college. Carly also earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and a degree in Industrial Design from The Georgia Institute of Technology while working at Sweetwater Brewing Company. Smith was accepted into the fall 2009 class of The Seibel Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois and Doemens Academy in Munich, Germany. The two also worked at a small start up brewery in Charleston, SC and decided it was time to do things on their own. Together, they designed the name, structure, and style of the company and then worked hard to create it. Their slogan is "Life's a trip, head Southbound."
