Zoso visits the apprentice's lair in an attempt to steal the sorcerer's hat, but he's fought away. Many years later, Anna visits Rumplestiltskin at his Dark Castle and wants to know why her parents came to the Enchanted Forest all those years ago, offering to do whatever it takes for this information. This gladdens Rumple and he makes the princess sign a contract, sending her on her way to poison a sorcerer's apprentice who guards a magic hat. She goes, but cannot poison him, shocked to learn that the "poison" was actually an antidote to the spell Rumple had earlier enacted to turn the kindly old man into a mouse; he explains that he needed her tear to break the enchantment guarding the box containing the hat, which can only be broken by those who've faced their inner-darkness and overcome

abstract
  • Zoso visits the apprentice's lair in an attempt to steal the sorcerer's hat, but he's fought away. She goes, but cannot poison him, shocked to learn that the "poison" was actually an antidote to the spell Rumple had earlier enacted to turn the kindly old man into a mouse; he explains that he needed her tear to break the enchantment guarding the box containing the hat, which can only be broken by those who've faced their inner-darkness and overcome it. She argues that she never even considered killing the man, so it doesn't count, and so he tells her that her parents came to the Enchanted Forest because they feared their daughter Elsa and goads her into killing him - which she does contemplate, but ultimately can't do - and he takes her tear afterwards. He then takes the hat for himself, wanting to use it to collect enough magic to end his dagger's thrall over him, but the apprentice (still in mouse form) soon bites his hand and causes him to drop said dagger, which Anna then picks up and uses to force him to hand over the hatbox and send her back to Arendelle. He begrudgingly obliges, and she quickly reunites with Kristoff. ("The Apprentice") Belle and Anna walk on the steep and narrow hill. Belle questions if Ingrid is powerful and all Anna has is good intentions then what are they going to do. Anna reveals that she has more than good intentions, but that she has this, referring to the round container containing that Sorcerer's hat which she pulls from her bag. The royal ginger exclaims that the Snow Queen can't hurt them if she doesn't have magic. However, Ingrid begs to differ, as she uses her magic, causing a gust of wind, throwing Anna to the ground. Belle is thrown as well, and the stone is released from her possession, landing on the edge of a rock. As she tries to reach for it, Anna calls out to her, barely hanging onto the edge of a rock; she screams that she can't hold on much longer. Belle, determined to get that stone, tells the royal ginger to hold on, as she'll be right there, but continues to try to grab the stone. Anna screams for her to hurry, but Belle goes for the stone, however, she misses and it rolls off the rock, falling down the hill and breaks into a bunch of pieces. This saddens the brunette beauty, but she goes back for Anna, reaching out her hand for the royal ginger to grab. There is not enough time, however, as Anna slips and falls to the ground unconscious. Belle watches nervously as Ingrid approaches the knocked out girl, removing the round container which holds the hat from the ginger's bag. Then, the Snow Queen leaves with Anna. ("Family Business") After burying the sorcerer's hat in Arendelle, Ingrid visits the sorcerer's apprentice in the Enchanted Forest to find a third sister. He tells her such a person is rare but Ingrid insists on waiting. Back in Arendelle, Ingrid reveals to Elsa what Anna learned during her journey and lies that Anna intended to use the hat on her. Elsa is doubtful so Ingrid explains that Gerda trapped her in the urn and Anna will never understand her. Instead of turning on one another, the two sisters conspire to trap Ingrid in the urn, however, Ingrid is one step ahead and traps Anna again. Under duress, Anna tells a story of a grief stricken king who cursed his kingdom with a mirror which makes people see the worst in others. Ingrid reveals she wants to cast this spell, but states it's hard to enact and she'll need many pieces. With one shard, she casts the spell on Anna. Elsa is shocked at Anna's anger, but Ingrid explains that its a spell to help her true emotions to surface. She urges Elsa to freeze Anna, but she refuses and Anna ends up trapping her in the urn. A shocked Ingrid becomes enraged and embraces her inner monster, freezing Anna, Kristoff and the whole of Arendelle. Rumplestiltskin shows up asking for the hat, but Ingrid claims not to know where it is. As a result he takes the urn from Ingrid and promises to return it once she hands over the hat. Later, as Ingrid goes to get the hat, the apprentice finds her and reveals that he located a third sister. Ingrid gives him the hat and gains passage to another realm, where she shall wait patiently for her third sister to arrive. ("Smash the Mirror")
