  • Indian National Congress (INC) is a major political party in India. It was founded in 1885 during the British rule and helped to fight the British colonial rule. Gandhi was a prominent member of the Indian National Congress and under his leadership the party organized a massive movement against the British. At that time, it was a dedicated for combatting the imperialist power by non-violent means. After independence it became the dominant party in India. But the post-Independence era saw changes in the party. It was no longer an organization opposing imperial powers, but it was influenced by some politicians who seem to value real economic growth above socialist, Marxist ideological purity. There has been some corruption. Although the party is the enemy of the Hindu fundamentalist Bharatiya Janata Party, it itself has been accused of several crimes including riots against Sikh community in 1984. At present the party is in central power with support from other political parties in the country following the election in India in 2004. The party rule the states of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Manipur. The government of Indian National Congress is presiding over impressive economic growth, [1]
