- Marvel VS DC is a crossover superhero movie that features superheroes from Marvel and DC Comics. It is the second installment in the Gates Cinematic Universe. All of the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are deemed canon up until after Ant-Man, while the previously established DC Cinematic Universe is nonexistent. The film begins in Gotham City, as Batman pursues an unknown vehicle to an unoccupied building. The driver of the vehicle turns out to be Deathstroke, who downloads unknown data onto a flash drive then leaves. Batman attempts to capture him and take him to Arkham, but he narrowly escapes. Batman returns to the Batcave to discover news coverage on the destruction of Sokovia. Meanwhile, Deathstroke enters Luthor Inc., where Luthor plants the flash drive into his robotic body of Ultron, who had escaped into the Internet during Sokovia. Luthor has created a new team of villains consisting of the Joker, Catwoman, Deathstroke, Loki, Ultron, Dr. Doom, and Magneto. They plan to turn the Justice League and Avengers against each other then ultimately destroy them. Six months later, inside the Watchtower, the League decides the Avengers have caused too much collateral damage, and they must be forced to disband. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman arrange to meet Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk. Thor hears of this and returns from Asgard, and finds Dr. Banner, and convinces him to join them. Stark, Thor, and Banner meet Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman in Smallville, and what starts out as a peaceful discussion turns violent as Thor attacks Superman for suggesting they retire. The following battle destroys much of Smallville, and eventually Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye (who chose to come out of retirement), and Spider-Man (who had been on a school field trip as Peter Parker) choose to intervene. The Green Lantern and the Flash also get involved, and the battle rages until Thor brings Mjolnir on Hal Jordan's forcefield, causing an explosion. The Avengers (including Spider-Man) use this time to flee. Meanwhile, at Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Students, Deadpool arrives unexpectedly and reveals that he has intercepted a message saying that a group of humans are planning to attack the school, and he is being paid billions to protect them. The humans turn out to be Deathstroke with armed men, whom the X-Men fight, with Wolverine fighting Deathstroke individually. Deathstroke manages to get the Joker inside, where he manages to capture Professor X, and he and Deathsroke flee. Needing help to get the Professor back, Wolverine, Storm, and Deadpool decide to consult the Avengers. The trio meets the Avengers, who believe Batman committed the crime, as Joker left a Bat-a-Rang Deathstroke collected from him at the beginning of the film at the scene of the crime. They decide to take action and attack Wayne Enterprises. Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Wolverine, Storm, and Deadpool head to Gotham City while Spider-Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Ant-Man (recruited by Falcon) plan to meet the League at Stark Tower, as they believe the League still thinks it is their base. At Stark Tower, Ant-Man fights Atom, Black Widow fights Black Canary, Hawkeye fights Green Arrow, and Spider-Man fights the Flash. The Flash escapes with Arrow, but Canary and Atom are both captured and defeated. In Gotham City, the Avengers, the X-Men, and Deadpool battle Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Shazam. During the battle, Storm summons her old friend Black Panther, who fights Batman but loses. The Avengers flee when they realize their real base is being attacked. In New York, the real Avengers base is being attacked by Zatanna and Martian Manhunter, who are joined by Green Arrow and the Flash. They manage to capture War Machine, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and Vision, then take them to the Watchtower. The Avengers and X-Men are too late to save them. Luthor observes that his plan is going very well, and Magneto overhears through a private discussion with Doom that he plans to use the Professor with his own copy of Cerebro, and coerce the Avengers and League to fight each other in a specific location, then have the Professor kill them. Luthor then intends to kill the Professor afterward. Magneto, an old friend of the Professor, decides to abandon Luthor's team, and convinces Catwoman to do the same, knowing her feelings for Batman. However, they are discovered and imprisoned by Loki and the Joker. Luthor sends challenges to both sides to bring fourteen of each (knowing there are sixteen League members and Canary and Atom are captives) to an airport in Germany to fight to the death. Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Storm, Black Widow, and Hawkeye plan to meet the Fantastic Four at the airport (mutual friends of Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Hulk) and send Ant-Man and Black Panther to the Watchtower to free their comrades. They meet Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Shazam, Nightwing, Raven, Hawkgirl, Zatanna, and Martian Manhunter at the airport and engage in an all-out brawl. The Joker then uses the Professor to mentally torture them all, but Magneto frees the Professor and incapacitates the Joker. Doom, Ultron, and Deathstroke decide to go to Germany, accompanied by a large army of Doombots. Loki decides to return to Asgard, knowing the Avengers believe him to be dead and wanting to keep it that way. Magneto and Catwoman go help their friends, and Luthor and the Joker flee to an unknown location. In Germany, they realize they should not be enemies but allies. Captain America and Superman shake hands, signifying peace between both factions. However, they are soon attacked by Doombots. To help battle them, Ant-Man, Black Panther, War Machine, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and Vision return with Black Canary and Atom, while Storm calls the rest of the X-Men. Magneto and Catwoman also fight the Doombots. In the battle, Deadpool fights Deathstroke individually, and reveals to him who hired him off-screen, suggesting Deathstroke could receive the same amount of money. With this revelation, Deathstroke switches sides. Doom opens a portal to the Phantom Zone, planning to send the heroes there, but he is sent there himself through a combined effort of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man, Storm, Wolverine, and the Fantastic Four. Superman also throws Ultron into the Phantom Zone, winning the battle. In the end, the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men and Justice League are all allies, and the Professor returns safely to the school. Luthor and the Joker have managed to make themselves President and Vice President, both claiming to be reformed (having secretly murdered the real President and Vice President). Superman and Batman warn them not to go out of the line. Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Hawkeye rejoin the Avengers, and Spider-Man, Wolverine, Storm, Black Panther, and Ant-Man become new recruits.
