Eight Directions of Awareness, or Happo Zanshin, was a legendary Mastery 5 mystical void kiho that could only be learned from another master, never spontaneously arrived upon. It was unknown how the knowledge came to the Brotherhood of Shinsei in the first place, but it was mastered only by a handful of monks every generation. When active, the kiho made the monk aware of everything around him. The awareness was absolute, revealing every detail, hidden doors, concealed objects and every living thing within the radius. The monk saw, heared, smelled, tasted, and felt everything within the area, and even darkness and physical obstructions provided no barrier. Objects concealed with magic were harder to discover, but not impossible.
