  • Ronnie Chumley (January 18, 1935 - ) is a former NASCAR driver from Houston, TX. He competed in seven Sprint Cup Series events in his career. Chumley's debut came during the 1964 season, when he competed at Daytona in the Speedweeks festivities. Chumley was solid in his Twin Qualifier event, showing 13th to transfer into the Daytona 500. Unfortunately, a blown engine ended his 500 in 34th place. The Speedweeks were also the site for Chumley's next two starts, which came during the 1966 season. Again, Chumley ran well enough in the Qualifier race (24th) to make the Daytona 500, but struggled with a blown engine in the 500 itself to a 44th place finish. Following that effort, Chumley did not return until the late 1971 season, when he competed at Houston. That race was not the best of races for Chumley due to a transmission failure, but his 12th place finish in the tiny field of fourteen still stands as Chumley's career-best run. He also tagged on a 27th place showing at College Station later in the year. Chumley's final effort came during the 1972 season, when he returned to College Station. It was a respectable end for the driver, methodically making his way from a last-place starting position (44th) to a 20th place finish.
