Toxic waste from the Chemical Plant seeped into Nige's soil through the river and mutated his vegetable crop into the Veg-Heads. Nige was captured by the Veg-Heads' leader, King Edward, along with Sonic the Hedgehog and Harry Mole. Sonic managed to free them all, but Nige was so irate at being humiliated by his own vegetables that he charged at them and was subsequently captured by the turnips. He was again rescued by Sonic.

  • Shortly after the defeat of Doctor Ivo Robotnik, Nige continued to tend to his crops, noting that his massive vegetables had a chance of winning him a prize in this year's harvest. However, he was left perplexed to wake up next morning and find that hardly any of his food remained in the ground. Nige spoke to investigator Harry Mole about the "theft", but was shocked to discover that his vegetables had mutated into talking, walking lifeforms. However, he was left perplexed to wake up next morning and find that hardly any of his food remained in the ground. Nige spoke to investigator Harry Mole about the "theft", but was shocked to discover that his vegetables had mutated into talking, walking lifeforms. After initially believing it to be a nightmare, Nige was briefly saved by Sonic the Hedgehog, but all three were ensnared by the villainous King Edward. Sonic freed him once more, allowing the furious farmer to scatter the Veg-Heads with his horns. As Sonic and Mole rushed to the Chemical Plant Zone to investigate the polluted water, Nige was captured by his turnips. Despite being captured twice by his own food, Nige was reluctant to cook them and bullied the townspeople into leaving them alone. With help from Sonic, Nige was able to grant the Veg-Heads their own plot of land - provided they behaved from now on. The bull presumably continues to live in peace with his veggie friends.

When it was revealed that the Veg-Heads had only been following King Edward's orders, and that they really wanted to live in peace, Nige took them at their word and agreed to give them a plot of land of their own.
