His biggest passion is music; he has been a member of several bands, such as Mind the Gap, and Funkasaurus Rex, playing many musical instruments including guitar and drums. He had a small role in the 2007 movie Charlie Bartlett. In 2009, Jake starred as Charlie Brown, or "CB", in Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead alongside Degrassi co-stars, Paula Brancati as "Van's Sister" (Lucy Van Pelt), Adamo Ruggiero as "Van" (Linus Van Pelt) and Mike Lobel as "Matt" (Pig-Pen). He played Melchior in the first national tour of the musical Spring Awakening. Most recently, Epstein was an alternate for Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Broadway production of Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark. He recently starred in Beautiful, a musical based on the life of legendary musician Carole King.
