A few years ago, swapping his Mercedes for a Toyota was Lesotho King Moshoeshoe II’s gesture to show his commitment to wealth redistribution. But it won’t be easy. Lying deep in the South African interior, the tiny state is surrounded by its powerful neighbor and depends on it for most necessities. Hopefully the changes in South Africa will in time benefit the people of Lesotho. Since the turn of the century large numbers of Sotho men have worked in the Rand gold mines as migrant workers.
