- Nurikabe is a youkai that manifests itself as a wall and that blocks or misdirects the path of travelers. Going around it is useless because it can extend indefinitely. The only way to make it disappear is by knocking on its lower part.
- The Nurikabe is one of countless such beings that make up the complex mythology of Japan - which arguably has one of the widest array of monsters, demons and spirits in the world: many of which were considered alien by human standards in appearance and behavior. The Nurikabe have also appeared in many media due to the popularity of Japanese mythology - one of the more notable examples are the Whomps from Super Mario Bros, which are a modified version of the Nurikabe myth.

- The nurikabe (ぬりかべ) is a Yōkai, or spirit, from Japanese folklore. It manifests as a wall that impedes or misdirects walking travelers at night. Trying to go around is futile as it extends itself forever. Knocking on the lower left part of the wall makes it disappear.[1] It has been suggested that the legend was created to explain travellers losing their bearings on long journeys
- Nurikabe (ヌリカベ Nurikabe 11-12): The giant type Makamou with a snail head and a Bagworm moth body, posing as a tree in Shimotsuke before it crawled towards the city until it was destroyed by Hibiki's Mouka Dotou form. During the start of Orochi, a Nurikabe appeared around the Western House. The Man was unable to seal it, forcing him and the woman to destroy the berserk monster.
- Nurikabe Tamotsu (塗壁 保), also known as Nurikabe (ぬりかべ) is a scout character.

- Nurikabe is a grid puzzle with the objective of creating 'islands'. An island is composed of a number of connected cells equal to the numbers written within them, and two islands may not touch each other. When completed the rest of the empty cells are blacked out, representing water.
