- The shadow star was a space station that was ten times bigger than the Death Star II. It was black and had three planet destroying lasers on it. It also had a force field around it. The shield generator was located on a Star Destroyer that moved with the space station.
- The Shadow Star hates being ridden on. He often hides in various places, usually the UFO. He generally says nobody will ever find him, but he is always found. The Shadow Star is Blue Kirby's favorite star.
- The Shadow Star is quite different from the other Air Ride Machines, having a different engine sound and shadowy "exhaust". Its gliding capability is almost as good as the Winged Star's, being the third best in the game (tied with the Hydra's). Its above average attack power makes it ideal for Kirby Melee matches, but its light weight and poor HP makes it easy to destroy and knock around. It has particularly excellent acceleration (the second best in the game, tied with the Wheelie Scooter and Meta Knight).

The series was created by Mohiro Kitoh and was originally serialized in the magazine Afternoon. When asked about the manga, Mohiro Kitoh stated that he had about 80% of the entire thing planned out from the beginning. When he was asked about the anime series, he stated he was grateful it was made. In the United States, it was licensed by Dark Horse and serialized in Super Manga Blast!.
