Most naturally occurring samples are solution or mechanical mixtures. To separate mixtures into it's individual components, there are multiple methods to do so. First of all, you need to find a physical property that is different for each component. An example would be: a large deposits of rock salt. -Add water (H2O) to dissolve the water -Filter the soil or sand -Evaporate the water to recrystallize the salt
