Liem Bencar was given a surname as Trak Nar was writing the first draft of Breakfast in Bedlam. Originally intended to be a temporary moniker, the name was derived from a soda can; Nar used the first three letters of "Bentonville" and "carbonated." After a while, Nar decided to continue to use the name, as she liked how it sounded. The sound of the name was evocative of the character Detective Mick Belker of the 1980s police drama Hill Street Blues.
