- Today, Riverwatch occupies the geographic center of the Briarmist Hills, the storied wilderness that comprises the heart of the Kingdom of Pendor. The massive tower at the center of town climbs so high on the horizon that the very top of it can be viewed from lookout spires in many holds of the Kingdom: the Capital to the north, Falinicus Harm to the west, Port Tusk to the east, Fort Underhill to the southeast, the Silvervein Outpost to the south and Le Pomme to the southwest. Using the height of the view, as Belus so brilliantly devised during his stay on Riverwatch hill over 650 years ago, urgent messages can be sent instantly between the holds of Pendor by lighting various colors of bonfire atop the tower, able to be seen almost 70 miles away. A highly-trained garrison of guards and mages oversee Riverwatch’s tower communications both day and night. The hillside town, one of the more lightly populated in the Kingdom, is surrounded by a circular ten foot high stone wall halfway down the hill, which is patrolled by lookouts and archers around the clock. Riverwatch is ruled by the Huntress Kynadril Skalkwood, a battle-hardened Half-Elf ranger, given the post for her bravery in battle in defense of the Kingdom during The Great Reckoning. As well as a communication center, Riverwatch is also considered a vital component of Pendor’s frontier operations. Equidistant and two day’s travel from both the Capital to the north and the Silvervein Outpost to the south, the town serves as a welcome stop for weary merchants and miners who must brave the Briarmists in order to trade their goods. Riverwatch is also widely known for its rowdy inn: Letard’s Opus, its gem appraiser: Hinsen Moorstache, its scryer: Voarmere the Watcher, several experienced chroniclers and guides, including the one-legged gnome fighter-mage Bully “Elmtoe” Wyllo, one of the realm’s best equipment repair shops run by Haggis the Tinkerer, and a small hospital overseen by two wise old clerics, Brovok and Ahmiran.
