It is the source of all supernatural phenomena such as Magecraft or ESP, and beings such as True Ancestors, Dead Apostles, Servants, Spiritual Bodies, as well as Phantasmal Species show signs of Mystery. Mystery accumulates over time and grows stronger with age.

  • Mysteries or "detective fiction" usually revolve around a critical, unknown fact and the effort to learn it. Often the unknown fact is the identity of a murderer. Murders create a crime for which the key witness and victim is unable to identify the perpetrator. Not all mysteries involve murders, some may involve a missing person, a treasure hunt or spy mission. See the category for for books, series and noted authors in the mystery genre.

  • A mystery was a genre of film in which the central focus of the plot was a criminal act whose nature and/or perpetrator was unclear. Some people believed that the enjoyment of such a film was partly due the audience's attempts to use logical reasoning to solve the mystery before the detective did. In 2153, while T'Pol dreamed she was watching Appointment with Danger on Enterprise NX-01's movie night, Trip Tucker and Doctor Phlox discussed the film's plot loudly in her hearing. When she suggested that they watch the movie rather than converse about it, Tucker shared this belief with her, adding, "You of all people should appreciate that." Despite his reasoning, T'Pol still felt they were speaking too loudly, replying that they ought to "use logic more quietly." (ENT: "Impulse")
  • A mystery is some sort of puzzle or "whodunit?" where people will run around aimlessly looking for "clues" to see if they can guess "whodunit?". Common types of mysteries are when people try to figure out who the murderer of a wealthy politician is, who raped some chick, or who stole the diamonds from the local museum. The people that go around solving mysteries are extremely weird, but are usually well paid.

  • Mystery fiction is a loosely-defined term that is often used as a synonym for detective fiction — in other words a novel or short story in which a detective (either professional or amateur) investigates and solves a crime. The term "mystery fiction" may sometimes be limited to the subset of detective stories in which the emphasis is on the puzzle element and its logical solution (cf. whodunit), as a contrast to hardboiled detective stories, which focus on action and gritty realism. However, in more general usage "mystery" may be used to describe any form of crime fiction, even if there is no mystery to be solved.
  • I very much like the word “mystery”. Too often, terrible connotations of once noble words have corrupted and abused their purpose. I often find myself biting my tongue concerning certain beliefs in public because I do not want to be associated with the New Age movement, hack philosophy, or worst yet, lofty idealism. I respect and acknowledge astrology, follow many Eastern philosophies, perform various rituals and meditations, but I am not the same as an ignorant reckless person who latches onto every alternative theory that can be found in order to make themselves “different” or elitist. I am also not a gullible idealist, wanting to believe in ethereal powers to benefit my own self-destructive life.
