5th Luna was an asteroid located in Earth Orbit. It was one of several asteroids placed around the Earth so that their resources could be used for space colony construction. 5th Luna was capable of independent movement, thanks to the thermonuclear pulse thrusters installed on its surface. In U.C. 0093, Char Aznable's Neo Zeon fleet seized control of 5th Luna and set it falling towards the Earth Federation headquarters in Lhasa, Tibet. Although federation forces from Londo Bell were sent to intercept the asteroid, they failed to stop it in time from impacting Lhasa. Both 5th Luna and the city were destroyed in the following blast.
