  • A Metari name consists of a Tribe name, a Clan name, and a Given name, as used by the Metari people of the Metari Theocracy. Before the changes put in place by Peshalim's Queen Astré Qarhoe Riza in 2025p, Metari names consisted solely of family names used within small groups of nomadic Metari to distinguish one another. The changes were designed to allow for further differentiation between similarly named people. Tribe names, always written first in a person's name, are derived from the eight ancient tribes of South Cadia, all but one of which now constitute the modern Metari Theocracy. The two dominant tribes of the subcontinent, the Peshal and the Esthem, are the two most common Tribe names in Metari names. The northern coastal tribes, Kunmé and Astré, are the rarest of Tribe names, estimated to be used by less than 10,000 people. Family names, which are written after Tribe names, vary greatly throughout the reach of Metari culture, as they were decided arbitrarily on an individual basis in the last quarter of the 21st precentury. Many family names, such as Qarhoe, or Yitt'ur, are based on occupations of the family leader, Monarch and Fisherman respectively. Some, such as Atikki and Hotari, are derived from the individual's birthplace. In marriage celebrations, the groom generally takes the family name of the bride.
