"You Were Meant for Me" was originally written in 1929 and introduced in the musical film Broadway Melody. It was re-used for the film Singing in the Rain where it was sung by Gene Kelly, and later recorded by many artists such as Perry Como and Jackie Gleason. Gene Kelly sings it as part of the closing medley in episode 501 of The Muppet Show.
