The great statue is a statue that first appeared in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It is a statue of Kamehameha the Great, the first king of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Thomas R. Gould, a Bostonian sculpture artist that resided in Florence, Italy was first contacted in 1878 to create this statue. The purpose of it being to commemorate the 100 year arrival of Captain Cook to the Hawaiian Islands. Though Polynesian photographs were sent to base the statue off of, Gould still proceeded to give the artwork a more Romanesque resemblance. Sadly, the statue was not made in time, and when it was shipped off in 1883 to Hawaii, a catastrophe occurred and the original was lost in the depths of the ocean. Luckily, it was insured and a second cast was made. The original was later recovered and currently resides
