In the immediate aftermath of Cortana and the Created's attack on October 28th that shut down communications and electronic infrastructure all across the various colony worlds, Victoria was thrown into chaos. In the immediate aftermath of Cortana and the Created's attack on October 28th that shut down communications and electronic infrastructure all across the various colony worlds, Victoria was thrown into chaos. The rebels, led by Colonel Nathaniel Wright, seeing the chaos as a perfect opportunity to retake the planet, began conquering outlying settlements, gathering recruits as they prepared to move towards Agley. The UNSC garrison on the planet, thrown into a panic, was hard-pressed to halt the rebels' advance, especially with a population that was welcoming the Victorian Independent State as liberators and keepers of order. However, the rebels' success was short lived, as soon, forces of the Created arrived on the colony to bring it under the control of the AI conglomerate. With a new threat, the VIS and UNSC formed field alliances in a vain attempt to hold back the hordes of Forerunner machines now under Cortana's control. For eleven days, the battle raged on, with the stories of tenacious resistance and mercilessness of the machines emerging from every engagement only steeling the resolve of the defenders, rebel and UNSC alike. As the Created grew impatient with the resistance of the humans on Victoria, a Guardian was sent to put them in line. In the blink of an eye, the city and colonial capital of Agley were vaporized. Fearing total annihilation, the remaining forces of the alliance escaped into the wilderness, forming the Flaming Hearts resistance movement, which spread dissent across the colony through paper literature to raise spirits and homemade weapons to use against the occupying forces.
