She was a tactical officer by training but at some point was "loaned" to ONI, where she worked at London Point. During that time, she did some research on combat psychology and interrogation techniques; she even published a couple of articles in scholarly psychological journals, one of which was publicly perceived as advocating the use of torture to obtain information. While she only analyzed and discussed the methods of torture from an abstract point of view, the article led to public outrage because which landed her on half-pay when Second Space Lord Francis Jurgensen refused to defend her for the article.
