| - To the southeast of the Castle of the Crystal lies the valley of the urRu, called the Valley of Stones, filled with mist, caves, and springs. Northeast are the Gelfling city ruins, filled with stonework, tiled floors, and frescoes. Near to these is the Landstriders hill and the Podlings' village. Also in this area is a swamp which has animated vegetation and is filled with a crackling static charge shortly after dawn. To the far northeast lies the Dome of Aughra.
- Thra is located in an unnamed solar system that contains three suns and an unspecified number of planets. The three suns are named the Great Sun (the largest of the three), the Rose Sun (a smaller star with a pinkish hue) and the Dying Sun (the smallest of the three, and very dark comparatively). Thra must be fairly distant from the suns, judging from its teeming wildlife. Thra is orbited by a single dark moon. Many of the planet's inhabitants do not know of this moon's existence as it does not reflect light, unlike the moons of other planets.
- The knolls beyond the Valley of the urRu were inhabited by large, silvery Gelfling-sized insect-like creatures, which would congregate together on streams and dance. The swamps and pools of Thra were home to aquatic animals such as Nebrie, Myrrhie and Krikkids. Large, dangerous predators included the Rakkida and the Arduff.

The Great Division had a severe effect on the planet's environment and organisms. The Three Suns shone more dimly, and the once verdant Bah-Lem Valley and its surrounding areas were reduced to a barren wasteland, due to the ley-lines of negative energy pulsing from the Dark Crystal. During this period, Aughra noted the appearance of strange new animals, including the golarch, hsilin, yoket khria, vereina, gilyak, cherfas, pbyx, storax, garodemana, khaipokhiu and iosis.
