  • Welcome to mudding. A "MUD" is a "multi-user dungeon" and "mudding" means to play the "mud." A mud is a type of game in which the player creates a fictional character, and controls this fictional character in a fictional world, the mud. The idea to make a mud is a very old one, when graphics would have caused too much lag in a multiplayer game, and so muds are completely text-based. This may be a bit difficult to get used to at first, but eventually, mudders tend to become rather fast readers as well as typists if they weren't to begin with. Mudding is quite a widespread hobby, its players are found all across America, and even the world. Here are some of the basics all mudders should know.
  • The first thing to do is take a look through some of the menus. I'd like to point out the treasure chest which costs 5 pieces of eight (in game money) to be able to use. Any money you get should be placed in here when you get it. Once the money is in the treasure chest, it can not be plundered by other pirates. Try to get at least $150,000 pieces of eight because the next thing you need to do is go to the Port Royal Port Pharmacy store and buy at least 100 Order Careenings. I always keep at least 1000 careenings in my inventory. Written by Adm. Floydian
  • Early on, your main source of experience will be daily Arena battles. Only after much time passes will you be able to pick up enough pupils to gain sufficient pupil xp to replace direct battling (discussed further below). Pick your opponents wisely if you want to earn the 2xp per victory rather than only 1xp for a loss. I know the arena's match-making system only lets you see the enemy Brutes' HP and stats, but that's fine. Opponents with high HP aren't that big of a deal as long as you can out-damage them. High stats are more dangerous. Choose an opponent with even stats rather than an opponent with a single high stat, that way they won't strike too hard (strength), strike too often (speed), or evade too often (agility). Beware brutes that have both low HP and low stats - that means they'

  • The first thing to do is take a look through some of the menus. I'd like to point out the treasure chest which costs 5 pieces of eight (in game money) to be able to use. Any money you get should be placed in here when you get it. Once the money is in the treasure chest, it can not be plundered by other pirates. Then the next thing to do is vote. Vote at all 10 sites so that you can collect the 1000 doubloons that you get as a reward for voting. This can be done once, everyday. The voting rewards are reset at midnight game time. Then, I recommend selling a few doubloons. You might only need to sell one to get enough money for what I'm going to suggest next. Big Tip! The doubloon market is setup so that the prices doubloons can be sold for are capped. Many players are willing to pay more for doubloons than the doubloon market cap. It's up to you if you want to post in the Trading Post forum, or if you want to spam a few players with mail offering the dubs for sale. Try to get at least $150,000 pieces of eight because the next thing you need to do is go to the Port Royal Port Pharmacy store and buy at least 100 Order Careenings. I always keep at least 1000 careenings in my inventory. Next on the to do list is to head over to the search the port link. Use all of your turns searching the port. Turns are also called steps. When you encounter Sarena the tavern wench, choose the option [stab her]. As best as I can tell, the outcome is totally random, and even the higher level players get drifted quite often. On average, I get about 5000 doubloons from doing this if I use all 150 turns searching the port. Successfully stabbing Sarena will net you 1000 doubloons. You may want put them doubloons into the doubloon chest when you get them so that they don't get plundered. When you get drifted, use the careenings you bought to get you “out” of drifting. It takes two careenings every time you get shot by Serena in this fashion. Now that you have a good number of doubloons in hand, we reach a fork in the road. If you are lucky enough to know someone who's a higher level player, you would benefit greatly by allying with them. What you are really looking for is someone with a really good ship. I suppose it is debatable as to just what ships are really good ships, but anything in the billion piece of eight range or higher is good. Once you are allied with them, you can start building up your levels very quickly. With a 2nd Rate Frigate, I've helped people get to level 100 in two or three days! And that's just by being allied with them. If you don't have someone to ally with, you are going to need to make some good money quick, so that you can buy a good ship of your own. Ships make all the difference. They determine how much force you have max. The more max force you have, the more stats you get when you train, the the more successful you will be at doing acts of piracy. Big Tip! You can sell your search the port turns for big money! Check through the forums to find current prices, but at the time of this writing, you should be able to get at least 10 billion pieces of eight for a set of 150 turns. Big Tip! If you vote every day at all ten sites, after fifteen days, you will be able to trade in your vote points for a Roberts Soul. At the time of this writing, a Roberts Soul can be sold fairly easily of 120 billion pieces of eight. In order to get your level up nice and high, you are going to need to do some training. Once you use up your spirit, take your doubloons and use them to refill your spirit. Make sure you don't wast your doubloons on force training. You will get just about as much stats with force training as you will by training regularly and refilling your spirit with doubloons. The big difference is you gain way more experience with regular training than you do with force training. I'm talking about 100 times more experience, and perhaps even more. As your level goes up, so does your max courage. If the ship you are in is at least the 3rd Rate Frigate, you should be able to all of the acts of piracy except for the “Go Broadside with Noelle” act of piracy. Just make sure that your force bar is full before you attempt the harder acts of piracy. The Kidnap Maria Amalia act of piracy might be possible with a less valuable ship, but I'm not sure. If someone could let me know what their results are, it would be appreciated. I'm looking for a 100% success rate. Doing the harder acts of piracy give you lots of experience, so hit them up as soon as you can. You should be well on your way to becoming a dreaded pirate! Good luck! Written by Adm. Floydian

You can also manually check enemy Brutes' personal collection of weapons, specialties, and pets by opening a new tab and typing in this address: where the brute's name goes into the name area. Periods (. ), commas(, ), colons(: ), semi-colons(; ), spaces and the like MUST be replaced with a dash (-). Only shift-key symbols, which include number shifts like: " !@#$%^&* ", are removed entirely from the name when writing the url into your browser. Multiple "replaced" symbols stringed together are worth only one dash (K. Sasaki which has a period followed by a space is k-sasaki).
