gamma-Hydroxybutric acid or GHB is a neurotransmitter. In its pharmaceutical preparation, it is used largely as a general anesthetic.In therapeutic doses, it is used to treat cataplexy, narcolepsy and alcoholism. It is used illicitly an intoxicant and is often used as a "date rape" drug as it has a similar effect to alcohol only at much lower doses.
