They found the number of the most hardcore metal producer in the business, who was easily able to make the greatest metal album of all time. Unfortunately, he was with Alice in Chains at the time recording "Dirt". So Metallica instead hired the infamous Bob Rock, mainly due to Lars Ulrich's artistic admiration of Motley Crue. Bob Rock was excited to work with Metallica, but he needed to lay some ground rules:
