She married Pierre Roy (coincidentally, her maiden name was Roy as well) and the couple had 12 children in total. He died in 1946 at the age of 85. When Roy was 101, she had a fall in her house and fractured her hip. Before this incident, she had only been sick once; in her 90s. Initially, she didn't want to see a doctor, but the pain became unbearable eventually. She was taken to the hospital and had a surgery. Subsequently, she was forced to start using a walker. Her mind was still very sharp at the time of her 102nd birthday, and she was confident that she'd be around next year. Four of her kids were still alive at the time; she lived together with one of them. Roy had a passion for food, avoided smoking and enjoyed the company of others. She was a fan of baseball and used to watch the World Series on television. Her secret to longevity was to "mind my own business" and "take one day at a time and make the most of it". She died in Maine, United States, on 18 May 1974. Her final age was 110 years, 211 days. She was the fifth oldest living person in the world at the time of her death. Only Mito Umeta, Elizabeth Donovan (unverified), Carrie Wood (unverified), and Niwa Kawamoto were older.
