The 2006 Checker Auto Parts 500 was a Nextel Cup Series event held at Phoenix International Raceway on November 12, 2006. Kevin Harvick led 252 of the 312 laps, but it was a faulty alternator that almost derailed his chances. However, a push from a wrecker gave Harvick the victory over Jimmie Johnson. Johnson, who finished 1st or 2nd for the last six weeks, and now held a 63-point championship lead on Matt Kenseth (13th) with just one race to go. Stats
