The Inner London Education Authority was created in 1964, coming into existence in 1965. It was to take on the educational functions of the former London County Council when the Greater London Council was set up - the outer London boroughs being educational authorities. The ILEA was wound up in 1990, the London Residuary Body looking after the disposal of its residual property.
