Sunmaster was a prestige class on Faerûn whose members were those faithful of Lathander who believed he is the reincarnation of the deity Amaunator. Although they worshiped the Morninglord (while referring to him as Amaunator) with the rest of his clergy, their heretical belief that Amaunator's re-ascension was close, caused a rift in the church of Lathander. Like the Morninglords of Lathander, Sunmasters represented the elite clergy, albeit on opposite sides of the disagreement. It is worth noting that Sunmasters could cast prayers, unlike the clerics of gods who paid no heed to worshipers or who were truly dead.

All Sunmasters were members of the Brotherhood of the Glorious Sun, an order within the church. Most Sunmasters were former Lathanderites, although a select few were simply paladins and wizard/clerics that strongly oppose dark and chaotic forces. With the coming of the Spellplague it was revealed that, ultimately, the Sunmasters were correct in believing Lathander and Amaunator to be one and the same.
