USS Discovery NCC - 62049 was a Nebula Class Starship featured in Star Trek: The Next Generation Roleplaying game by Last Unicorn Games. She is described as a "workhorse" of the Fleet, having recently been refit after the battle of Po Ucan IV. She is currently under the command of Captain Ann Potrikos. First Officer (formerly Chief Engineer) is Lt. Cmdr. Arax Papaub (Tellarite.) This vessel and her crew are used in the Core Rulebook to introduce new players to the game, and frequently the PCs serve their Cadet Cruise aboard her. The vessel is described as being sleek and modern, but not as spacious as a Galaxy class, with narrower corridors and cramped workstations on her bridge. (I always found Joe's description of Discovery to be a little wrong; for one thing, this was the very first starship the PC characters had ever seen, so how could they possibly be "cramped"? For another, a Nebula Class has the exact same saucer section as a Galaxy Class, with the same bridge module. I just role-played my doctor and never made mention of this, but in hindsight, in 1990, I probably should have. Joe's description of Discovery made it into print when he sold all his notebooks and other materials to Last Unicorn Games in 1996.) Jaryd Harker, M.D., was a Lieutenant j.g. and junior medical officer aboard her during the battle of Po Ucan IV, when the Chief Medical Officer was killed. Subsequently, the crew fell victim to a particularly nasty virus that a Cardassian vessel beamed aboard, and Dr. Harker saved the entire ship's complement with a combination of El Aurian and Borg medical techniques. He received a commendation, the Medical Cross, and a promotion to full lieutenant for his actions. It is presumed that the Discovery is still in active service, and Ann Potrikos is still her captain. Of course, this is entirely up to the Narrator/Gamemaster who is running your own Star Trek game. Last Unicorn Games, Gaming Stats for USS Discovery (Nebula Class Example:)
