Synopsis
  • Badly in need of repairs, the Red Tornado contacts a technician who is currently being forced by terrorists to build a bomb.
  • While on assignment as Oliver Queen in the Caribbean nation of San Felipe, Green Arrow rescues the beautiful Mercedes de Diego from an attempted kidnapping. Queen is there to try and discover the key players in the drug trade that emanates from San Felipe to Star City, but Mercedes induces him to help her free through bribery a man she first claims to be her brother, then, later, her cousin, from a tough prison where he is held for political reasons. Green Arrow appears to agree and helps her with the operation. But he has deduced that she is really involved in the drug trade herself, and her “brother / cousin” turns out to be a man who had betrayed her and whom she wishes to kill. Green Arrow turns her and her quarry over to drug agents at the U. S. Embassy.
  • Batman woke up to find himself buried alive. Back in Gotham, Superman was not happy that Batman missed a meeting and Commissioner Gordon explained that, for the first time, he couldn't contact Batman. Robin arrived and confirmed that he has checked everywhere, to no avail. Gordon received a phone call from the Metropolis chief of police, who said that someone on top of Metropolis Bridge was claiming he'd kidnapped Batman, demanded a ransom of ten million dollars from the two cities, and Batman would die in less than twelve hours if they didn't pay. Superman grabbed Robin and flew him to the bridge. The kidnapper, Wiley, told Superman that if he didn't back off, he would blow himself up. Wiley did not see Robin climbing up the side of the bridge. He explained that superheroes forget about the small-timers, and that he captured Batman by eavesdropping on police radio and blowing out the wheel on the Batmobile. In the middle of his rant, Robin threw a batarang, attempting to knock the detonator out of Wiley's hand, but only succeeded in pulling him off the bridge. Wiley blew himself up, catching Robin in the blast, and Superman immediately flew him to hospital. When Robin came out of surgery, the Daily Planet's publisher arrived and accused Gordon of being part of a fiasco. Gordon flared up, Superman told them both to back down and Gordon to stay with Robin. Jimmy Olsen played him a recording of Wiley's ranting after he tells how he'd already scanned the city with his x-ray vision. He picked up on a comment about how Batman wouldn't be lonely where he was buried and headed off to the cemetery. He found a recently-buried lead-lined coffin and dug it up, only to find Batman had already escaped. When Robin woke up, he explained how he had removed the end plate of the coffin, dug his way out and waited for his captor, except Superman arrived instead. Robin said that Batman really was the world's greatest escape artist, to a loud amen from Superman.
