He played for the Boston University Terriers from 1974 to 1976 and was chosen 41st overall by the California Seals in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft. The Seals became the Cleveland Barons in the summer of 1976 and it was with the Barons that Fidler turned pro in 1976-77, He scored 17 goals in only 46 games that season and then 23 in a full 1977-78 season. Fidler spent most of the latter part of his career in the minor pros and his last active season (1983-84) with Wiener EV in Austria.
